Gus retired as President of First Metro Asset Management Inc. (FAMI) a member of the Metrobank Group in June 2018 after joining the First Metro Investment Corporation Investment (FMIC) group in 2006 where he had been an active member of its investment committee. His experience in investments and the capital markets span both local and international institutions. He had a stint at Bank Austria Private Banking in HongKong managing portfolios for private clients. Gus had been an international capital markets practitioner for many years having worked with Banque Nationale de Paris and Banque Paribas the predecessors of the present BNP Paribas prior to their merger. He worked in Hong Kong and Singapore for the Paribas capital markets group and in the Manila Off-shore Branch of Banque Nationale de Paris. He was fortunate to have operated in the major financial centers of Tokyo, Paris, London and New York as a capital market practitioner with this global bank which gave him deep insight in the global financial markets.
He had been President of PNB Securities Inc. and a member of the board of the Philippine Stock Exchange. He also served as Senior Vice President of Security Bank Corporation and SB Capital Inc. Today, Gus remains active in post retirement activities holding directorships in various financial & non financial enterprises. He is a member of the board of trustees and serves as treasurer of the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP) being a strong advocate of road safety and responsible driving. Gus is also an advocate of physical wellness among the elderly. He encourages both aerobic and resistance training among friends and acquaintances. Age should not be a limiting factor for mobility and physical activity.
