Maica has worked in the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines. She is an A. B. Political Science graduate, a Juris Doctor in Law and completed Results-Based Project Management at the Asian Institute of Management. She completed the Swedish Institute Management Programme at the Swedish Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

She was selected in the 2020 cohort of women leaders in Southeast Asia which is a platform for leading and impactful women  in Southeast Asia. She is the winner of the Women of the Future Awards 2021. It recognises leaders who are making a difference in society. She is an alumni of the International Visitors Leadership Program in the United States. It is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. She is also the Executive Director of SPARK, an NGO working for women empowerment and gender equality. She also serves as the Managing Director of Mind You.
